When I watch my home-made dvd in my computer dvd player, they sound nice and the audio level is like in the editing program; how I put it. But when I watch them in my dvd player on my tv, there is clearly some kind of automatic gain control. You know -when the audio suddenly strikes, some mechanism turns down the volume directly (slightly, but noticable) and then turns it up again. I've searched for this in my dvd player manual, but found nothing. Someone has experienced the same? Or can it be the tv? None of the controls for neither the dvd player nor the tv have something to turn on/off AGC.

It's not any dvd authoring. Moving you to our dvd player forum.

Some dvd players and receivers has a night mode function that does exactly what you describe. Does it happen with commercial dvds also?

It may also be called Dynamic Range Control (DRC) or similar.
