Have they included, in this new version, an mpg encoder? Do you still have to install the "Mainconcept" plug-in to accomplish this?

New version? That's about 10 years old or more.

Maybe you're thinking of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, that just came out this past summer?

4.1 was pre DV format and generally required a hardware SDI or MJPEG card.

Since Version 6.5, The "Adobe MPeg Encoder" has been based on the Mainconcept OEM SDK as has most Sony Vegas and ULead. http://www.mainconcept.com/site/developer-products-6/mpeg-12-sdk-727/information-4780.html

Then what is that program, in the left column, that says "Adobe Premiere Elements 4" in this forum? Looks fishy to me. Maybe they are confused with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4, which is not a Video editor.

Just checked it out. They are selling it "Premiere Elements 4" on Amazon for $89.99

    OK Premiere Elements 4.
Yes it uses the "Adobe MPeg Encoder" which is based on the Mainconcept MPeg2 SDK.
    What is your concern?

I don't know. The Mainconcept SDK is a Chinese Menu of features that require royalites for each feature. I've always been impressed that ULead Video Studio has both MPeg smart rendering and real time MPeg encoding features.

By the way, Premiere Elements is unique in support for the "Mainconcept Elements" $66 Plug-In that allows native MPeg editing including smart render.

Is that what you were referencing?

I killed so much time with APE 2 with Main Concept Elements plug in it still was reencoding my whole videos. Asked many questions at Adobe forum but they still suggested that APE wasn't for mpeg editing. The only program worked for me MPEG Video Wizard DVD, It just kind of hard to work with. BTW sourse of video from Sony mini DVD camcorder.

Are you just cutting MPeg? Then look at Womble products.

Are you filtering and/or adding effects? Then look at that Mainconcept plug-in referenced above for native MPeg editing in Elements. All conventional editors will decode MPeg2 to RGB and recode at the end. Standard Elements is no different.

My concern is: If you complete a movie, using Adobe 4, can it be encoded directly to mpg, as one can do in VideoStudio? I know this cannot be done, in their previous version, without MainConcept's Plug-In.

Your problem is your camcorder encodes to MPeg2. Editors like Elements, Vegas and Virtualdub convert all frames to RGB or DV and then recode to MPeg2 at the end thus dropping a generation. "Smart Rendering" as found in Womble produces and Video Studio keeps track of frames and how they are processed. A simple cut will reprocess all the frames in the GOP. Smart Rendering will copy unprocessed GOPs from input to output thus avoiding the blanket decode to RGB. In order for Smart Rendering to work, project and MPeg2 output specs must be identical to the input. Any difference in size, bitrate, etc. will force a reprocess.

Standard Adobe Premiere Elements has no Smart Render capability. Sophisticated native MPeg2 editing can be added with the MainConcept Plug-in. The web site says it only works with Elements v2 and v3.

That's what I tried to say that APE with main concept plug in still reencode everithing. It makes video quality bad. Womble works great, it just really weird work flow to me. If that would be interface of APE with Womble engine I would be very happy.

Thus, from the above, I will stay with VS 11 (it's a good program) and wait until Adobe gets smarter in order to try it.

    Thank you, All
