I just installed the 2.5 Demo. The first time I loaded it, it loaded fine and I tried out some functions. When I tried to Preview the menu, it told me I didn't have a program assigned to Video_TS.inf files. I stopped SVCD2DVD and started Windows Media Player 10,and assigned it to play all of its media file types, including DVDs.

I then tried to restart SVCD2DVD, but it will not run. It gives an SVCD2DVD error box with an IO.Exception error. I have copied the error and it is as follows:

    Version: SVCD2DVD 2.5 DEMO
    Build: 2.5.3300.0

    Type: System.IO.IOException

    Source: mscorlib

Message: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Program Files\BadgerIT\SVCD2DVD v2.5 DEMO\%APPNAME%.EXE' because it is being used by another process.

    InnerException:

When I close the error box, SVCD2DVD completes the load, but if I try to do anything it throws an "Unhandled Exception" error.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling SVCD2DVD (rebooting between). I have the latest MS .net frameworks 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 installed. I even upgraded to Windows Media Player 11. But none of it helps.

Any ideas on why this is happening, and how to correct the problem?

More info on this problem. I installed S2D on another PC I have, a Dell laptop with WindowsMediaCenterEdition. It started up OK. I added an assett. When I tried to Preview the menu, it gave me the same error, No DVD assigned by windows. After that, it will not load. It gives the same error as earlier post. It seems that there is some problem in processing the Menu Preview. Somehow it is not finding the DVD player and once it has that problem, it cannot recover, even if it is stopped and restarted. Or uninstalled and reinstalled. I don't know why it could not find the DVD player on my MediaCenterEdition. It came with the MS DVD player.

When I first tried the Preview, it said that there was no program associated with the VIDEO_TS.IFO file type. (This is from memory, as I cannot get back to that error message).

No. Once I have tried the preview. it will no longer work. Even if I reboot, it still will not start. And if I uninstall it then reinstall it, it still will not start.

    Thanks for the quick turnaround.

I tried it but it did not work correctly.

I installed the test version. It did started OK and I got to the main screen.
I added a large .ts file and started to process it.
It completed the conversion OK, but when it went to make the menu, it failed again. I was not able to get a copy of the error message. It was similar to the previous error on loading, something about mscorlib not being able to access the menu.exe (or something like that).

And now I can no longer load the program again. It is giving the same error as I reported above.

    ChrissyBoy,

Sorry, but that didn't fix it either. But I did manage to get the error report this time.

So I installed the latest version. It starts up OK. (I think it does this cause it gets a new ID when it installs?)
I created two movies, each with one MPEG asset.
I created a Menu with the two buttons, Plus Play All, and my photo.
    I started the creation step.
It created the mpgs OK and created the menus OK as well.
It ran the "Encoding Menu" step.
The log reported "Encoding Menu ... Done"
And at that point it put up the SVCD2DVD Error screen. The data from that screen is as follows:

    Version: SVCD2DVD 2.5 DEMO
    Build: 2.5.3301.0

    Type: System.UnauthorizedAccessException

    ChrissyBoy,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

This build helped. It successfully completed building the DVD. Yeah!

However, after I completed the build, I tried to "Preview" the menu from S2D. As in my original report, it gave me the error that I did not have a DVD player assigned. And now, I cannot load S2D again. As before, it keeps giving the S2D error screen before completing the load, and will not successfully start.

    ChrissyBoy,

The production version of S2D seems to be working fine for me. I have not tried to use the Preview feature, since that is what caused all my problems and I want to make some DVDs. I have used it to create several DVDs today, and it is working well. Maybe when I get a little more time, I will try the Preview on my other PC.

Thanks for your efforts in trying to figure this out.

    Hello all,
I unfortunately also have this problem.
I have just loaded the trial version, adjusted some settings without even importing a file..and now get the message..I think after trying to preview...

I've tried several versions, reloads , reboots etc etc with no effect.
the applicaiton is locked as soon as I open it.

I am particularly interested in this application as I understand it does a good job of converting pal to ntsc.
I have pal mpeg2 home hd movies and require the format changing to ntsc mpeg2 hd for authoring and playing on a hde1.
I HAVE TRIED FOR MONTHS TO GET GOOD QUALITY, SMOOTH AND CRISP QUALITY OF CONVERSION WITHOUT SUCCESS.
It appears to me the basics in this software should do what other experts can do uniquely with avisynth etc.
Unfortunately I must be too stupid to figure this out and am looking desparately for assistance.
    MANY MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE.

    hi and thanks so much...
    IT NOW WORKS !
After spending a few months with variants of avisynth, and getting nowhere, I feel very helpless and nothing but admiration for your capablilities.
Having now got the application going,...
Have you any idea if/how I may be able to convert my pal mpeg2 files to ntsc mpeg2's?
(I obviously only have the source mpegs rather than an already authored dvd)
    Thanks.

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I downloaded the MSVBVM60.DLL file, and reinstalled svcd2dvd and it seems to have done the trick, I haven't tried to convert anything yet but at least it loads up whereas before I always got the error code and no further. Many thanks Chris for taking the time and trouble to try and sort this out..cheers,Rab
