  1. Hi.

I want to capture some old old tv shows...using my all in wonder,
    edit them to remove commercials....,
burn them to a DVD with Ulead movie factory so I can set up menus for the different episodes

Can someone point me in the right direction?

ok--you've just asked to do several things ranging from easy to very complicated. So rather than get technical I will tell you what I have done as a starting point (i'm still learning this as well) With the ATI--capture at mpeg1 or mpeg2 compression with 352x240 resolution (different if your a PAL person) You will have to set the recording settings to VCD quality (unless you have a DVD burner and then in which case read the HOw to section). Once your program is recorder you have to edit the commercials. I use VCDcutter 4.04 as it seems to keep the audio and video synced better than other i have used (there's a hundred different programs so you have to find the one you like). I then multiplex it through TMpgenc, to smooth things over (my understanding is that it just locks the audio and video together) Then burn. I use nero 5 and turn the VCD compliance off (i find VCD quality somewhat lacking so i always juice up the bitrate to 2.0 kb/s) thats it in a nutshell. For more detailed answer ask more deatiled question

  3. Ok, I am in the process of trying your routine...

    I have a few questions...

    1. how do I capture from the TV and get the sound that's needed to play on a DVD player...I think the capture limit is 44,100 as opposed to 48,000.?

    2. I have a DVD burner so should I capture at 352X240 as opposed to 720X480?

    3. I know ULEAD movie factory can add menus, but it tells me my audio isn't 48,000 so it won't burn

I have searched for answers, found some good information, but much of it is over my head as I just started this whole process. Most of the info available is for ripping and copying. When I use ATI to capture, I don't have a VOB or IFO file....do I need these?

Any advice, or point in the right direction is appreciated.

Well I'm sorry to say that I can't help you any further My knowledge (as limited as it is) is limited to VCD's, For DVD's you should check out the how to's (if you haven't already) especiallly the capture and author section. Just curious are DVD burner's coming down in price now? That's my next ultimate purchase How's that ATI working for you?

  5. Menace,

Thanks for your reply. I love my ATI all in wonder radeon card. I think it makes nice captures.

DVD-R/RW burners are now under US $350. 00 at various web locations:

    http://www.pricewatch.com/

I have read the "How-to's" but they are geared more for ripping and converting. The how to for ATI is specifically written for VCD 2.0, so I am trying different things blindly to get a compliant mpeg2 file that I can just capture and burn....no luck yet...

Thanks for your help! I have ripping converting and burning of a DVD down to an art....this is my first venture into captures, not rips...
