    Hi All

I'm looking to digitise my vast collection of VHS tapes from 1990 onwards into AVI format on my Archos AV500 or something similiar.

As its a 3hrs tape and there's several shows per tape, what app would I use to trim out the extra and cut them up?

There's a great app called MP3 trimmer for the Mac which I used for old cassette tapes, basically need something like that for avi's.

    cheers

Explicit AVI Cutter does exactly what you want, splitting, and nothing more.
MPEG Streamclip has loads of features, one of them saving a selection.

How are you actually digitalizing the tapes? Your previous post indicated you were using a DVD recorder (and finding out that it all happens in real time!). If so, then doesn't it have a Divide feature, so that after transferring a tape to the internal DVD recorder harddrive, you can break it into separate programs? But you're in for a hellava lot of work, then recording them as distinct episodes to the one DVD disc, then reading from the DVD by, and using, MPegstreamClip to convert each (but as a batch) to AVi before you can transfer to Archos.

    Hi

I can digitise and put stuff on DVD with the Lite On, which too date i've only done a few of.

The archos is another route for direct AVI recording. Thats what the apps would be for.

I may end up sorting through the tapes and break them into three groups - dump, DivX and DVD-record. Based on content.

  5. Hello all,

I am facing a same kind of 'problem' as blackice, only for Windows not MAC
Could I use the suggested Explicit AVI cutter for that?

If not, I am looking for a free program (might VirtualDub be a good program?) what I can use to trim original AVI files , by taking bad scenes / parts away....

Another person in the States is going to use those AVI's and edit them to a final product.

    Thanks for the input!
