Ok, i have a mpeg2 that had a timecode issue, which i fixed with Apple's Streamclip. It is 1 hr, 56 mins. It was captured from a VHS tape, recorded wayyy back in 1992. The A/V of the mpeg is in perfect sync. Now, here's the problem i am having...

I am using Ulead's DVD Movie Factory 3. I threw the mpeg into it, to do the DVD multiplexing. The resulting DVD folders are thrown into a different drive/folder, than the original. When i play it, the A/V sync is screwed. It went from a perfect A/V sync with the mpeg file, into a so not perfect DVD.

Anyone out there have any suggestions? I did not burn to disc right away, just to make sure that it was in sync first.

    thanks for any help!

Try author with something else and see if you get same sync issues, like tda or guifordvdauthor.

I tried something called DVD Flick. For some reason, and i tried another authoring tool as well, but forgot the name. Anyway, it is taking TWICE the space for this dvd, which means unless i fix things, i'll need to burn it on to a DVD-R DL. I only encoded it at a bitrate of 5mbps. The resulting mpeg file is only 4.5gigs. For some reason, it is asking for wayyy more space, a whopping 10 gigs. Any ideas?

What audio format are you setting? AC3 at 192kHz would be perfectly OK for a VHS capture. DVDMF 3 can do AC3 audio. If you are trying to save as uncompressed wav or similar, that can cause sync issues and will account for the file size growing. It also isn't DVD compliant.

hi again. I fixed things, and the DVD is in great shape. The biggest problem with the file was it was NOT DVD complaint, so i used a freeware file called "Any Video Converter", and it converted it to a file that is DVD complaint. It's in great sync and everything. Thanks for all your help!

Now, as for another DVD i'm fixing, it's 2 hours, 1 minute, at a whopping 4.93gb. How could i fix it where it will fit on a DVD-R? Is it difficult to do? I know there was a file out there called fit2cd, where it would allow you to squeeze more stuff onto the cd past the 700mb barrier. Is there a similiar file that will allow me a few hundred more mb's of stuff onto a DVD-R? Or would i have to go through a lot to do this?

If it's already in DVD format (VOBs, IFOs, BUPs) you could run it through DVD Shrink, since you only have to trim it down a small amount. If it's a MPEG, then re-encode it with a lower bitrate and author it to DVD. Check the audio format, though. If it's not AC3 or MP2 audio, but PCM audio, you may be able to gain some room by encoding just the audio to one of those formats.

There is also a program that works with MPEG files, similar to how Shrink works: ReJig You might try that.

For the MPEG encoding, use a bitrate calculator to see what bitrate to use for the desired size. https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/bitrate-calculators
