Not all players read all USB HDD - a fact of life. Read the manual, see what is supported and not. I'd guess the HDD has to be FAT32 formated for starters. And could you change the subject? This isn't really about playing DivX, but about connecting a HDD to your player.
If you supplied some info regarding what player and what HDD we're dealing with here, maybe someone can give you first hand info.
And it's not about conversion either - moving you to DVD Players.

    Thanks Mat for the update.
The HDD is formated as NTFS.
The DVD Player is an "Onn sw2411a-DIVX" and able to read from HDD.

That's most likely the problem. Most players only read FAT.

That's built into your OS. If your HDD is lets say F:, you open a DOS prompt and type:
    Code:
    FORMAT F: /fs:FAT32
    and press enter.
Or use the GUI way: Right click on F: (in Windows Explorer) and select Format... then FAT32 in the File System menu.
