    Hello,

I use Programs such as DVDx and DVDfab to rip content from dvd's and to encode to .avi files using the Xvid Codec.
DVDfabs documentation says that it supports multicore proccessors, however do I need to install an Xvid Version that supports multicore or multithread proccessors in order for dvdfab to take advantage of such proccessors?

If I do need to install Xvid 1.2, which as far as I know supports multicore, where can I get it?
Or would it be better to get an earlier Xvid Version and use a multicore patch that I have heard about?

    Which choice is better?

    Thanks,
    Kidcash.

You can get Xvid Via our 'Tools' page. I think it's up to 1.13 at present. You can easily check to see if Xvid is using both cores, just take a look at 'Task Manager>Performance' and it should show the utilization of your cores.

Of course I don't know what Xvid version you have at present or if your programs will see a newer version without some help.

  3. Here's Xvid 1.2.127-25022006 which supports multithreading. You need to enable it in the config dialogs.

    xvid-1.2.-127-25022006.exe

I have installed The Xvid Version that jagabo posted.
I did not see any config dialogs to enable multithreading, I looked in C:/Program Files/Xvid and I have not found a way to do it.

    How would I enable multithreading?

Would I have to replace any files in the DVDfab directory? I am asking this because I was reading a thread about AutoGK, somebody was talking about replaceing the xvidcore.dll file on AutoGK.

  5. Start -> All Programs -> Xvid -> Configure Encoder -> Other Options button -> Encoder tab -> Number of Threads = 2

Or with a program that lets you configure the encoder directly, like VirtualDUb, Video -> Compression... -> hilite Xvid -> press Configure -> Other Options button -> Encoder tab -> Number of Threads = 2

Not that I know of. I've run it on a 2.8 GHz hyperthreaded P4. Not much improvement in speed though.
