Check your resolution, and especially your refresh rate, exchange monitor with another PC for test.
Setting refresh rate too high can permanently damage your monitor.
If this has occurred, and "little brother" made the refresh rate change, he owes you a new monitor. Make him pay.
Next, do not leave your expensive toys in the hands of irresponsible people who do not know what they are doing.
The "shake" could be an internal monitor problem, but this is quite rare. Settings is usually the issue, "gamer punks" often kick this up with no thought of possible monitor damage. -
Do you have another computer or laptop? If you do, try to connect your monitor to that computer/laptop. If it works, then something is wrong with your 1st computer, not the monitor.
Also, check out the connection plug behind your monitor. I have a monitor that occasionally displays shaking image. After I turn off the monitor, unplug and replug the cable and tighten the screws, everything is fine. -
another idea is that there is something else connected generateing noise in the line (power) is there anything new pluged in that might cause ac dehumidifier room frige etc? does the on screen display shake too? or is it just the pc image? make sure your lcd refresh rate is set to 60 hrz and im guessing your default res is 1024x768.. this is assuming its a lcd.. if its a crt then degause the screen.. thats found in the on screen menu too. and the refresh rate on crt can be higher.. try 72 or higher.

Stop jerky graphics. The alternative way
Since I started using XP, I noticed that games performance was terrible. Idle CP load stayed at around 12% all the time. This lead to jerky graphics, choppy sound, every game I tried was the same, even DVD playback suffered. I tried the tweak
http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/display.asp?id=822
but I didn't see any difference. If you also experience this problem and have a Zip drive, here's how I solved it.
1.Right click "My Computer"
2.Select "Manage"
3.Click on "Device Manager"
4.Double click on your Zip under "Disk Drives" ( it may be listed as "IMG VP01" or something similar - pick the one that's not a hard drive)
5.Disable the device
If you then need to use the Zip drive, simply re-enable it by following similar steps.
This worked fine for me, XP is now as fast as 98 (well, almost!).
