If anyone has SDs of Casino Royale, Blood Diamond, Shooter, The Reaping or Flatliners, I could post some pics from the Blu-Ray versions to compare.

its obvious that the HD will look better than the SD.. but i think the quesion is how does the SD upscaled look compaired to the HD of the same movie.

thats what we need pics of take screen shots of SD upscaled to what ever it upscales to then take the HD version and take a pic scaled ot the same resolution. like 720P or 1080i for both since i dont think there are players that will upscale SD to 1080P

another thing to think about if your on a computer looking at these pics and your set to anything below full HD or on a LCD monitor it wont look that different anyway since your monitor doenst have the pixels to display anyway. IE your standard LCD monitor wont display a picture of anything above 1 megapixal image anyway. 1024x768 is only 768423 pixals. not even 1MP.

I get in this debate a lot. why does my 8MP top of the line camera pics look so bad on my monitor? duh its not an 8MP monitor. of course if you zoom the 8mp pic in it will look better then the 1mp pic because there is more data. but your monitor at 1024x768 is only showing 768kp at any one time

the only way i can see this working is to take a SD dvd hook up an upscaling player to the computer. take screen shots make sure that the player is playing in 720P or 1080i then play an HD on the same computer and take pics. at the same res as the upscaled SDOriginally Posted by rhegedus

That's what the link I gave earlier did. There was no comparsion. HD was far better than upscaled SD DVD. At least on the 1080p projector they were using.Originally Posted by Heywould3

Sure it will look superior on a 1080p display. Was there any doubt? I thought the question was how do they compare on a 1366x768 or 1024x768 display where 1080p is down scaled and 480p is upscaled. I'd expect HD/Bluray to look better but not by a wide enough margin to justify the costs.Originally Posted by jagabo

I don't think taking photos from 2-3m away would be representative, especially if you cinsider screen flicker.Originally Posted by Heywould3

IMHO, I think the most representative would be to view both BMPs side-by-side resized to 1280x720.Regards,

Upscaling is not a simply Resizing.

The only way I can imagine to compare upscaled signal, is by using something like Demon's videoenhancer... Upscale a clip from a DVD and compare the result with the same frame from a HD DVD (or blu ray)
