OR are we getting more posts confusing conversion with burning

it seems they all start out I have been using 'fill in the all in software here (nero-roxio etc )' to burn videos to dvd

and now 'fill in probelm here' , whats wrong ?

is there more of this or am i wrong ?

    FYI
with DVD's first the file is converted to the correct format , thats the slow part' then it is burned that is the fast part,

if something is out of kilter with your file, then your all in one 'CHOKES'

NERO or Roxio don't just burn a 600meg avi onto a 4,7 gig DVD, they convert it first, then burn it and there are better ways to convert video than using NEro

I don't know if there is really that many more. It sort of goes in cycles.

When I see 'It took 2 hours to burn with Nero', I usually explain the difference with 'burning' and 'conversion' or 'encoding'. The distinction may not seem important to some but I have seen a few posts where it really did take 2 hours to burn when their burner was running in PIO mode and they had some other interface problems.

The majority of our members have a 'factory' computer with programs like Nero or Roxio bundled with them. And the term 'burning' is tossed around to make the whole process seem simple. Then they try to feed a P2P movie off the net that was poorly encoded to Xvid and uses MP3 VBR audio and they don't understand why Nero doesn't work or doesn't produce 'DVD quality' results from a crap source.

Just explain the differences politely and advise them of alternative programs to try and suggested reading and they will mostly figure it out in time. We were all new to this at one point.

And theewizard, in the future, please use a more descriptive title for your posts that reflect the subject. I will change yours this time.

They are newbies, which is why they come here for help ... and they need our patience.

Before we became enlightened, we needed handholding too............
