I am having a little challenge backing up one of my DVD's. This DVD is a NTSC ALL Format 9 and is 8.6GB or so.
The first message I get is attached and it's basically the "Subject" of this post. At that point I answer yes and it continues with the process and encodes just fine.
Then at the end when I go to burn with Nero it tells me that the media I have does not have enough space. Shouldn't the compression take care of this even if it's a Format 9 with 8.xx Gb's?
The only option I saw at the time was to eliminate the audio (there was only one audio file) and then it copied the sucker. But, well who wants a DVD with no audio?
I am using the following guide and have install all software which works just fine since I have already backed up other DVD's.

My drive is a NEC 3540A and I am using Verbatim DVD+R 16X ZD5176-DVR-T47D.
Thanks.[/b]

You mean the original disc is a DVD9 - Dual Layer disc?
Are you attempting to compress a dual layer disc down to a single layer disc?
Are you burning a single layer disc?
Is the original disc copy protected? -
OP:The link to the guide is dead.
What are you using to compress... DVDShrink ?
BTWutput an ISO and burn with DVDDecrypter or ImgBurn.

Interesting. I just clicked on the link to the guide and its there. The name of the guide is:
"How to copy a DVD-9 using Ripit4Me and DVD Shrink 3.2"
The guide has you download ripit4me, decrypter and shrink. Shrink is encodes it. I use Nero afterwards to burn it.

1. Seems like it is since it's 8.x GB and back cover says it's Format 9.
2. I am attempting to copy it. Compression is something SHRINK does automatically. The guide's title does not state or tells you what media to use. Perhaps I need DL media to copy this DVD. Can you copy a DL into a Single Layer with compression using the guide I posted?
3. I am using Verbatim DVD+R 16X 4.7GB. So, yes.
4. I think it is. -
The link opened for me and it indeed said RipItForme was being used...I never liked that program...but that is my personal opinion.
Just rip it to your computer with DVDFabDecrypter...then open that with DVDShrink. Compress down to your single layer size with DVDShrink and see if the output is acceptable to you. If not....look into other guides for DVDShrink that involve re-authoring and removing unwanted material from the original disc(like extra languages, menus and other assorted crap). -

It finally worked and it looks like it copied the movie without the extras alright. I am not sure what was happening before, maybe it was operators error.
For a second pass I tried copying the whole 8.X Gb but it has video errors. I suppose if I want the whole DVD I would have to use Dual Layer media or try the other guide you guys suggested.
Thanks for the feedback. Besides this website, can you suggest any other links with good DVD and/or audio information?
Thanks.
