That's interesting. dzvero007's right. His video plays fmt=34, LQ with stereo, and fmt=35, HQ with stereo.
For me Captain Satellite's video plays fmt=34 in LQ but only fmt=6, HQ without stereo.
I noticed only my newest video has both fmt=34 and fmt=35. Only a matter of time when we all get stereo for both LQ and HQ by default.

It's still stereo, but as you receive it... is subjectively.
Uncompress audio, load to editor and compare left and right channel.
BTW
Of course mono audio have only one channel. -
ok I"ll put it simply.
I can hear the obvious stereo seperation with your standard quality (using headphones). I can't hear it with your high quality. I can hear the obvious stereo separation with the other guy's standard quality, and the stereo separation is identical with his high quality, the only difference is that the high quality is 44khz, while standard quality is 22khz.
Anyone who has uploaded a stereo video using .flv's when it was possible, can put &fmt=18 to listen to highquality and although the high quality codec is stereo the audio isn't.
It means you're arguing about nothing. What the other guy said is true. His high quality and low quality is stereo, your high quality isn't. JUST LISTEN TO IT WITH A PAIR OF HEADPHONES. If you think the stereo separation is the same with your high quality than... I won't be replying to you again. -
At this moment...
Standard (fmt=0 ?) > MP3, ~64 kbps, 22.05 KHz, mono (1 channel)
fmt=5 > MP3, ~64 kbps, 22.05 KHz, mono (1 channel) (little difference in video bitrate)
fmt=6 > MP3, ~66 kbps, 44.1 KHz, mono (1 channel)
fmt=18 > AAC, ~126 kbps, 44.1 KHz, stereo (2 channels)
fmt=22 > AAC, ~248 kbps, 44.1 KHz, stereo (2 channels) (it's rare, only if uploaded video have 720p)
fmt=34 > AAC, ~68 kbps, 22.05 KHz, stereo (2 channels)
fmt=35 > AAC, ~112 kbps, 44.1 KHz, stereo (2 channels) (it's rare, example here)
fmt=13 and fmt=17 > only on mobile devices (3GP with AMR or AAC audio)
Of course if particular format not exist (not created from the source file) on YT server, then by default just played a clip is a standard.
Most YT clips exist as standard, fmt=5, fmt=6, fmt=18 and fmt=34 (last format, not always).
Only some clips exist as fmt=35 and fmt=22.
I do not know, but I am curious what the subsidiary is the default playback (standard vs fmt=34) and depending on what is to create a format fmt=35.
BTW
Of course, i don't know what's source (uploaded) and quality file is from @myfavoritevideoclip YT user.
BTW
I wrote earlier... some clips are played by default in LQ fmt=34 (and probably sometime also fmt=35) instead LQ standard.
Subjective perception or stereo and quality or if YT clip with stereo was created from mono or crappy stereo... it is another matter.
It is also important ... comparison of the original (uploaded) clip and re-encoded clips on YT server.
Indicated by the dzvero007 and Captain Satellite clips was published by them, or simply have been found?
Have source (uploaded) clips to compare or not? -

I think YouTube soon will put high quality option (&fmt=18) in every low quality video, and those which already have high quality option (&fmt=6) won't be concerned. But I still cannot understand what YouTube planned to bring us with all those "fmts" :-) -
he everyone
i just uploaded a amazing HQ video really i cant believe my eyes
it was also 10500 bitrate
link: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=vgmy90H73jk&fmt=22
buth i dnt think it lasts long cus its a trailer how alredey has bin banned
please forgive my bad englise -

BTW
Possible... when source (uploaded) 1280x960 (4/3) file, then 960x720 on YT under fmt=22
and then 480x360 under fmt=35 - similar as fmt=18 (with a few differences) -
I've uploaded several videos with this settings in Sony Vegas 8:
Project: WMV, best quality rendering
Audio: CBR, WMA 9.1, 64kbps - 44kHz
Video: CBR, WMV 9, 1280x720, 1.000 pixel ratio, 29.970 fps, 3 seconds per keyframe, 100 sharpest
Bitrate: 1M
but the videos end up staggering or laggy (not smooth) when playing on Windows Media Player. Same thing goes when it is uploaded, of course.
Does anybody have better settings for smoother rendered video? ie. different codecs or containers (avi, mp4, etc.). Thanks in advance. -
So what is the general concesus of format for uploading to YT? Since the hacked flv doesn't work anymore.
Is it wmv?
or mp4?
Any advice or direction would be great...thanks. -
YT added an HD link - don't have to use greasemonkey to append the stupid &fmt22 anymore let alone test to see if in fact the vid was uploaded in HD when some tubers don't even know it exists. Of course they will now discover it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8W_JW_Qlmo&fmt=22
when viewing in full screen it does not give you the black bars at the top and at the bottom like many others do? -
^Yeah I noticed the new "Watch in HD" link on some videos. So there are two qualities to watch now: Watch in High Quality and Watch in HD.
I went with 720p/2 = 640x360 resolution and it is a lot smoother, and I also get the "Watch in High Quality" link as well.
How does one get the "Watch in HD" link? What kind of encoding? -
Hi! ...
just wondering ...
How we can import the HQ videos from youtube to Justin TV playlist? ...
Justin TV need the youtube video URL ... but the HQ videos on youtube using the "&fmt=*" are not recognized as real source to the HQ video url ...
I just make a test with a hq video on youtube that not use the "&fmt=22" trick ... just a clean URL .. and it work really nice on JustinTV as video on a playlist ...
Anyone knows what is the real url for any the youtube HQ videos? ... without using the "&fmt=*" on it ? ...
thanks! -

Has anyone identified other videos that have a fmt=35 version? I'm attempting to come up with a way to identify which formats any given video is available in.
So far there are only two videos I know of that have a fmt=35 version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0no-DlRMko
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY
The first has a fmt_map value of 35,6 and the second has a fmt_map value of 22, 34 and doesn't identify the 35 as existing.
Any input? -

I'm sure video size(resolution) is crucial to get fmt=22 format. -
It now seems that Youtube allow us to upload videos in HD and they re-encode it in H264 /720 p (well i suppose that's what they do)
See this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY
You have the WATCH IN HD option (not HQ > HD)
I'll make my little tests to see what are the possibilities
I suggest you make yours and we report here
I wonder, among other things, is if there is a possibility to not get your file re-encoded.
I have opened the file in media info, that's what it says:
video: h264 / 1280 x 720 (progressive)
bitrate: 2060 kbps / 30fps
audio: 232 kbps 44khz , 2 channels AAC*** DIGITIZING VHS / ANALOG VIDEOS SINCE 2001**** GEAR: JVC HR-S7700MS, TOSHIBA V733EF AND MORE -

I was thinking I will just encode strait to mp4 using main concept h.264 1280x720 and 5mbps
Or is there an encoder that provides option for h.264 divx HD mp4 as well that works good?
I'd love to know if anyone is doing this without using divx?

Whats this &fmt=35 thing everyone is talking about? I haven't heard of it yet.
But here are the required settings for Watch in HD link
Code:1280x720 Resolution 29.97 Framerate Bit Rate < 1500
to high quality by adding &fmt=18 to the URL to the video. So if there is a video with Watch in HD
link, you know that you can always watch the same video in high quality. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50g5mREkRss this is a video that I uploaded that helps &fmt=22 work perfectly, and well...the only thing that makes me angry is that youtube won't let 60 fps work on any video. how does it look btw? It was about the same bitrate you said, I think, but..I don't remember much now. Is there a way to hack youtube to play 60 fps yet? and btw what is the difference in &fmt=35? is there any good ones?
-
What is odd is that when paypal introduced the 640 width they also reduced their native encoding bit rate so pretty much all their videos look like crap now unless you put one of the higher resolution &fmt options on the end to watch in higher bit rate.
I actually started embedding only &fmt=18 on my own sites before the change but now I would not even dream of embedding their standard video which is encoded by youtube only 320 wide but they still display it at 640 making it look even more crappy. -
I made 3 tests at YouTube to figure out how to make possible YouTube to generate HD and stereo videos, I posted there also all the information and conclusions, available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUK91sDULm4 , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9gVRFJ85-I and a summary here http://cybernetnews.com/2008/03/12/watch-youtube-high-quality-videos-by-default .
In short you have there all the 8 formats I found that YouTube generates and we could download, so if you want an HD 720p quality video just upload a file with minimum requirements for that quality (in this case 1280×720/1298Kbps/25fps and Stereo 44.1KHz/96Kbps).
Placio74 found all that formats plus 35 before me, but I was not aware of that when I made my tests (2/3 December), his data are for 4/3 aspect ratio videos and mines for 16/9. I think YouTube doesn’t generates any more format 35 (I couldn’t make YouTube to generate format 35).
totalaudio, Super is an excellent free encoder.
fmt_mapper, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY has a 35 format file of 23.4 MB (73.6MB for 22 and 2,256MB for 13, you could check the other fmt’s values).
Someone knows more videos with format 35 ?
atropine, for a simple efective stereo check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLJZjO61dgI&fmt=18 .
Hope this will help! 8)
