I believe YouTube does not want us normal users to post up HQ videos for two main reasons:
1. Lower network bandwidth usage. Re-encoding makes filesize smaller and easier to stream
2. Our competition with their paid VIP members such as senators, mayors, paid televisons, etc. These people probably paid for their higher quality YouTube uploads, while we just upload same or better quality for free with these hacks.![]()
If not, I don't understand why they would not allow HQ videos in the first place. We encoders can put a 10min video in high quality on a small 27MB file.

by letting users upload their own FLV's they run into security problems. it is possible to craft FLV's with malicious scripts inside... i think this was one of the reasons they stopped allowing FLV's through without re-encoding. another reason, it was easy to hack FLV's in a way that would allow us to upload videos with MUCH higher bitrate than they wanted

basically, they gave up. we win
-
Well, we do win in that perspective, but we don't because we can't get high quality FLVs anymore =(
Also, question:
When I record things it allows me to record on MPEG-2 at up to 10,000 kbps, or MPEG-4 at up to 8000 kbps. I've been using 10,000 MPEG-2 because MPEG-4 lags alot and then encoding it to 1000 kbps Xvid in Vdub later. What would result in higher quality, my method or just recording it in MPEG-4 at around 1,000 kbps? The way I figure it is that with Vdub I can cut the exact part I need, and I'm encoding it to a very high quality codec anyways. I could be very wrong though, so I'd like advice still. -
Are you sure about that? Things might have changed now. I've uploaded all sorts of x264 files with bit rates ranging from 800k to 2100k (w/320k stereo audio) but all I get to hear on clicking the "watch in HQ" link is mono sound. &fmt=18 produces a proper stereo output though. From my tests, it's apparent that:Originally Posted by Assault

Can anyone upload a test video to see if the "watch in HQ" button links to the MP4 version? -
I don't have to. Most everyone knows the HQ button leads to the 480x360 Mono sound FLV. The only way to get the Stereo MP4 as far as I know is to add the "&fmt=18" to the URL. You were correct. Can anyone upload a test video to see if the "watch in HQ" button links to the MP4 version?

FYI
Input
FLV 720x576 1192Kbps total stereo
YouTube output (different ratio since latest protocol change)
FLV 300x240 (=5/4!) 400Kbps total mono
MP4 450x360 (=5/4!) 546Kbps total stereo ( add &fmt=18 )

Thanks for clarifying, manono. Assault's statements had made me a nervous wreck!Originally Posted by manono

MP4 480x360 (=1.33) 401Kbps H.264/MPEG-4 AVC + AAC 124Kbps 44100 Stereo
In both cases the original fps (29.97 fps) remained unchanged (the output was either 29.97 or 30 fps) -
i guess thats the difference between in our thiking through out all this HQ hacking times... you were doing it just for the HQ videos, i was doing it because i enjoyed FLV hacking and all those challenged that we encountered.Originally Posted by cjwcorp

I'm pretty sure that's not the only reason, because why haven't you uploaded anymore trance lately? Those were awesome! You missed the HQ stereo hehe. :POriginally Posted by frifox

Since YouTube is blocking HD videos now, my suggestion, rather than VIMEO, is VEOH.
VEOH is better known that Vimeo and even Veoh's low quality video are higher quality than YouTube's. If you use Veoh TV, you can watch videos in HD quality.
That's my suggestion

Veoh is blocking like 20 countries right now...Originally Posted by cjwcorp

im so sad. I cant upload good quality image with tunes

Veoh has excluded 85% of the world. It's goal is to be the most exclusive video sharing web site in wealthy countries. :POriginally Posted by Spritemoney

in my case I think that I can setup my own site with the lighttpd web server but my internet connection does not has the enough upload bandwidth to serve HQ videos, the videos would have to be hosted in another site or using some sort of p2p for distributed storageOriginally Posted by venomite

FYI
Input
WMV 640x480 25fps stereo
VIMEO output (Vimeo respects the original aspect ratio)
FLV VP6!! 504x380 30fps 560Kbps total stereo
You don't have to push a button or add &fmt=18 !!
And for the Dutch people out there, you can easily embed it into Hyves!!

hmm, Ive uploaded a video to YT made with IMutube, and not only it was converted, it also does not play! This is really crappy

I've uploaded today one of the tracks from Violent Storm to Vimeo and quality is nice.. Check on http://www.vimeo.com/1401181
"Death to General Midi!" - Necros/FM -
imeem is good, nice quality
but the problem is, the network speed is so slow. -
Here's my new trance track on Vimeo. http://www.vimeo.com/1400244
There's a lot of ringing in the high frequencies but its still 1000 times better than youtube encoder with their crappy compressor (which ruins every music).
If anyone wants it in higher quality here is a mp3 link http://boxstr.com/files/2874579_7adyh/DJ_Spaceport-Deep_Space.mp3 -
Is anybody still trying to bypass (or should I say - beat
) YT's new system?
On a side note, Vimeo just seems a bit odd really. There are hardly any fellow trance or house music fans on there and in the 5 odd days since my videos were posted, I've garnered a total of 40-odd views, of which 10-15 were by yours truly.
On the other hand, my videos on Youtube easily fetch 3K-4K views every day. There's just no comparison.
