Hooking up TV Tuner on PC?

Hey all,

I just purchased a new computer (http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/rts_desktops/rts_desktops/1/storefronts/GC673AA%2523ABA) and I was interested in hooking up the TV tuner on the computer. I'm not exactly sure how to do it though. Do I have to hook up the PC to my cable box? I assume I would do this using an S-Video cable? How exactly do I go about changing channels if it's hooked up that way? Wouldn't that mean that I have to watch whatever channel is playing on my cable box at the time? Sorry for all the questions but if someone could clarify all these issues I'd appreciate it.

If you connect S-Video + audio, you will see the channel selected on the cable box. Consult the MCE forums for possible control of your cable box from the computer.

second way, connect cable to computer and tune analog channels.

third way, connect an antenna and watch over the air TV.

how about getting a splitter and splitting the cable...one goes to the cable box and the other goes to the computer. that would work right?

Yes, but you only get the analog channels on the PC. To get the other channels you need to connect the S-Video and audio as well and tune those on the cable box.

Well, I'd like to be able to watch all the channels on my cable BUT I'd also like to have the opportunity to watch different things on TV. It's a great setup for football sunday's. How would I go about getting all the channels on my CPU while not having to watch whatever channel is on the cable box.

You get a second cable box for the PC.

ohhhhh. damn i should have figured that out myself. that stinks....i was hoping to watch stuff on different tvs. oh well, I already have my tv hooked up to a dvr but i guess ill just go with the svideo cables.

You can watch the analog channels separately, also over the air.

That will get you the analog channels 2-99.
