The Subject line say it all.

I am looking for a capture card that works under Window 98 (orginal version)

I have seen card using Win98(SE), but, no non SE cards.

Probably the only way is trying to get a old used one (e-bay?).

I had a Pinnacle DC30 that runned under plain W98. But you need to get it with the original driver CD.

But your profile says you have an All-in-Wonder 128, that works under Win98.

Richard's right. I had an AIW 128 when I still had Windows 98, but I was running Second Edition at the time. In my personal experience, when I upgraded to a faster box that runs XP, my videos never looked any better, so I would upgrade to something that specifically isn't Windows 98. Half of the time, when I tried capturing video on my Windows 98 box, I had "YouTube quality" [low quality and often pixelated and mediocre sounding] videos [from my AIW 128, mind you] and thought that this was normal for home-computer capturing until a friend gave me recommendations when I had this computer built.

You don't want to go back there even with a DC30plus. It was a world of hurt in those days. Win98se and Premiere 6.5 are as far back as you would want to go. Even then you need the old Pinnacle drivers for the DC30plus.

I think if you use any bt878 tv tuner capture it will work with win98 if you can find the drivers.

There are generic ones that might work with any card win95, win98 and win98se

For example maybe these would work. see the second line.

Often when drivers say win95 they also are the same for win98 so you can try those they would probably work (not win98se)

The old PCI based Dazzle DVC-II was a great card that MIGHT work on Windows 98. I don't know. It's up to you to do the research. It's long "out of print", so you'll have to look for a copy on Ebay or a similar place.

This website might of use should you find out that this card can work for you:

It has a bunch of drivers and useful programs.

I HATE ATI cards with a passion, which is why I originally bought the DVC-II some years ago. However, on ancient Windows 98 systems, ATI works relatively well, so that is an option. You really need to do yourself a favor and get off of Windows 98 though. I know some people who still run it and none of them are happy with, but for financial reasons they can't afford a new PC (yes, their PCs are ancient) and their current PCs can't really be upgraded so they are stuck in Windows 98. Nothing works very well for them though.

I know what you mean by "World of Hurt", especially when all you had to work with was 128 MB of RAM and had no other choice but to stick with the lowest resolution setting just to avoid audio synching issues and a crapload of dropped frames.

Like I said before, I thought dropped frames and audio going out of sync was normal and was supposed to hapen for home computer capturing.

    Additional Comment:

JMan98, I couldn't have said it better myself. When I made the switch to XP, I've never been happier and to tell you the truth, I don't miss a single thing about Windows 98.

I curious as to why you'd want to stick with Windows 98? You appear to have fairly modern hardware. Why stick with an OS that's approaching a decade old?

I did, of course, have 98 when it was the predominant operating system, but my system suffered from about five different shades of instability.

I loaded on Windows 2000 Pro and still use it on all my systems. My capture and DV transfers are without dropped frames and look pretty good. In the latter days I used 98, I doubt I could have even gotten my system to stay together long enough to make a good capture.

Please don't take this as critical, but I'm interested as to your reasoning.

Also you could find a win98se or Win2000 upgrade on ebay or request one on Craigslist.
