Since I live in Canada, I have the default set to NTSC. If I put some PAL assets on the DVD, I get the old "menu is NTSC but assets are PAL" message. I then go to the settings and make the encoding for menus PAL, for this project only. When I return to the menu page, it has not been resized! The title-safe and action-safe boxes actually flow off the edge. The menu is produced as PAL and does include material that appears to be cut off at the bottom and right.
However, if I open a new project and declare menus PAL for this project only *before* placing assets, the menu looks perfect.
Not a show stopper, just an annoyance.

Neil - on the case... will resolve for the next release.
Thanks for the heads-up.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.
