  1. This is sort of the similar to the original meGUI test thread I started back in Feb. It's more or less the same thing, except this test uses a minimal number of avisynth plugins (just dgdecode.dll) and encodes a full 720x480 DVD sample. The original test was a 480x480, interlaced sample.

Anyway, Techarp kindly agreed to host the file and results at this URL.

This version doesn't require meGUI or .net to be installed. It's just avisynth and x264 all driven by a batch file. Have a look and please contribute (just post your results in this thread and I'll get them into the table).

    Thanks all!

I had to use v2.56 of AVISynth since v2.57 crashes for some reason. I doubt this affected my results though.

It's funny, even a base C2D is more than twice as fast as mine. It's time for an upgrade. I'm hoping to get a MacBook Pro in a few months.

    !

Yes, but if you needed that kind of performance, you would find a way to afford it.

I'm at least happy my machines come up to the norm for their hardware configuration. I did notice both would blue screen when running the benchmark if ran overclocked to a 230Mhz FSB, so my results are stock 200Mhz FSB, no OC. X264 seems to put them to the test. Have to look further for the exact cause.

Wow dude, that's is a serious machine. Can you provide some additional info about it for the table?
-processor type (since you have two quad core chips, they must be clovertown xeon 5300's right?)
-processor speed (total GHz and the multiplier and FSB)
    -Motherboard chipset for Northbridge
-memory timings and core rate (e.g. 5-5-5-15 @ 400 MHz)

You should be able to find out all these by using CPU-Z

Oh, also, which O/S are you running and is it 32 or 64-bit?

Same info as above is needed for these machines.

    graysky,

    CPU: Northwood P4 2.4C w/HT overclocked to 3.0GHz (FSB 250MHz) multiplier is fixed @12
    (L1: 8KB, L2: 512KB)
    RAM: 2GB Corsair TWINX2048-400PT running at DDR500 3-4-4-8 (FSB:RAM = 1:1)
MB: Asus P4C800-E dlx chipset: 875P
    OS: XP Pro SP2
other details are in my computer profile

Overall it's not bad for a four year old computer. At the time I built it, it was just about the best you could do with a single CPU system. I would love to build a new computer, but my needs are becoming more mobile. I had to give up my recording studio a few months ago, so now I need to work on a portable setup. Now that Macs are able to run Windows, I'm looking to get a Macbook Pro. I don't want to give up Windows since I have a lot invested in Windows-only apps. I do find OSX quite intriguing though. It'll be nice to have to have the option.

Just got a Q6600 a few days ago and thought I'd see how it fairs.

Q6600 Quad at 2400 (266X9), Asus P5B Deluxe P965 bios 1215, Crucial 2 GB DDR2 PC-8500 locked at 1067Mhz and dual channeled(5-5-5-18@533Mhz). Win XP Pro SP2+ all updates. All other options in BIOS are default other than the 2 mentioned here.
