    Hi all, heres the problem:

I have to take a fil off dvd and re edit in fina cut pro.

i stripped it using mac the rip, coverted to avi using hand break and dragged the avi into final cut. It didnt work. i then tried to convert the avi that i got from hand break and , using compressor change to a mov. file. The result was bad - very bad quality with a shimmering effect and a squashed.

i need to keep the quality as good as possible and am not worried about the size of the file. The most important thing i to be able to edit it.
I am on a mac book pro dual core, os10.4. Please please any help at all, i have a deadline of tommorow and i still need to edit.

    thanks.

You should ask in the mac forum.
    ask to be moved.

What did you put in the avi?
I'm not familiar with mac software, and final cut import capabilities,
but depending on what kind of editing you are going to do, a dedicated mpeg editor might be better.

if you need full blown editing,
DV is a good format to work with. Convert to that.
then you'll want to go back to mpeg2 yes?
is final cut mpeg2 encoding any good?
do you have an mpeg2 encoder lined up?

    in any case
    you might read this:

What your ripped using MtR can be converted to DV using MPEG Streamclip. You will need the MPEG2 QT codec from Apple but I believe you should already have it installed from the FCP install.
