1 - If I use nero what video formats a clip may belong so that I can copy these video clips to CD and will that CD can be played on any CD player?
2 - There is another option I see which is 'send these files (video clips) to CD' and when I go to CD, there is a message ' these files are ready to be written on CD'. How is this method different from above method? thanks for help.

CD Players do not play video clips... only audio. If you mean a DVD player that plays video CDs... then the VCD standard is what you need and what nero will give you.

The "send these files to CD" option will make a data CD of the clips as they are and burn them straight to a CD-ROM.

So video CD made by either method can be played on DVD player?
I downloaded some funny movie clips from internet and then used Nero express
to burn these to CD-R, The whole process was completed successfully but when
I put the CD in CD-ROM, no movie clip could be played rather there were 4-5
folders containing either notepad files or some files of unknown format.

No. The first way creates a VCD (see WHAT IS - VCD in the upper left column). The second way creates a data cd that contains the files in their original format.

The real question is what exactly are you trying to do? Where do you plan to play the files?

Notepad files ? Do these have the *.dat extension ?

If that is the case then you have created a Video CD. These will not play automatically when you insert them into a PC.

You need a software DVD player such as PowerDVD to play the disk.

A Video CD will also play in a stand-alone DVD player.

Menus work different for Video CDs. Normally you can only access clips by inputing the number of the clip to play it. There is no DVD-like navigation.

Also, many DVD players do not start playback of VCDs automatically - you have to press play to start them.

VCDs are like a high school sweetheart. Yes, we've moved on since, but there'll always be a soft spot in our hearts for our first video burn experience.
