I am looking for a receiver / dvdplayer / anything that will take a progressive component input and downconvert out through the composite jack interlaced. Does anyone know of such a device?

    Thanks so very much.

Downconverting is the wrong term. You are just wanting to convert progressive to interlaced. What is the source? If it is a 480p DVD for example, most DVD players allow you to set the video output (progressive on/off). So the DVD player does all the work automagically.

  3. Yes, this is a strange request. You haven't explained just why it's important to go from component to composite .

As Krispy Kritter said, just turn off the progressive scan. You could also use composite at both ends, as composite cables aren't capable of passing a progressive stream.

Well I don't think downconverting is the wrong term. I have a Sony PSP Slim on my hands and a component cable to plug it into a tv. My tv is an SDTV, with only composite in (and obviously only interlace capable)

The PSP will only play games through the tv out to a component / progressive cable / signal. This is why I'm looking for something that will take a component INPUT (Progressive) and have an output jack that is composite (the middle item downconverting from progressive component to interlaced composite)

I know its a strange request but I was hoping someone on here knows of something capable thats not $600 !

    Thanks so much!

I'm assuming no one has any suggestions. I'm kind of stumped here. My next question would be, does anyone know of any HDTV's (Cheap) that have a zoom feature?

    Thanks again!

An AVR maybe. An unless I'm mistaken, Sony used to have kits for using their hardware with older TV's.

And downconverting still isn't accurate as it doesn't accurately reflect what you are trying to accomplish. You are wanting a device that accepts a component input and converts it to variable outputs...in your case composite. Downconverting infers a change from a higher to a lower resolution but not a change in output type.
