Hi all, it's been a while since I had a problem I couldn't solve without having to come and ask here. So I've been able to burn dvds with ImgBurn or DVDShrink for some time now, recently and even once and a while I'll get an I/O error, usually I'll change the disc and it'll work, the last 2weeks I haven't been able to write with ImgBurn. I'm using HP DVD writer, with Memorex DVD+Rs Here's the log

Typical replies to such issues are to make sure the firmware for your DVD burner is up to date, and to try different/better media - TY and Verbatim seem to be the one's most often recommended.
Basically, your burner doesn't like those discs. Updating the firmware may help, but usually using good media cures most issues.

Um, I guess you don't know but Memorex media sucks big time! Why? This exact problem. Before I learned about how some media was better than others, I would just buy whatever I could get my hands on. I bought Memorex ONCE. They were pure garbage. Out of 25 pack I had 3 coasters. It was totally unacceptible to me. Is it REALLY worth saving the money on Memorex when you end up throwing discs in the trash because they won't burn correctly? Buy either Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden and you won't have this problem.

TDK is also a brand that I've had pretty good luck with. Out of ~100 discs, I had only 1 coaster, and that may very well have been my bad.

I even re-built the .iso and still came up with the error. Any suggestions? -
TDK media is pure crap, they outsource their media to manufacturer CMC. Buy VERBATIM or TAIYO YUDEN as suggested.

So, while it may be possible to get a poor-quality disc to burn depending on the burner, TY and Verbatim seem to have the most success regardless of the burner, hence their near-universal recommendation.
Happy Burning!

Before you spend any more money - upgrade the firmware in your DVDwriter.
The media type and write speed mismatch are very troubling. Are you specifying 12x to imgburn. Imgburn usually does not burn above the speed which is returned by the drive.
Although posters on this forum have little respect for CMC, it makes an enormous number of brands of disk, TDK, Imation, HP, etc etc, outselling Verbatim and TY by a long mile. It burns to completion on as many drives (or more) as the recommended brands (VSO software study). This does not mean it will last as long, or be compatible with all ancient players or any other measures of quality - Which are harder to quantify.
Your problem is at least as much the fault of your drive as the media, rather than throw away media, you can consider buying an LG or Samsung model which is more media tolerant. A couple of spindles of coasters equals the price of a new drive.
I burn a lot of DVDs and have not had a coaster with any brands on my LG drives for many months.
Success rate the same for Verbatim (MCC), CMC, Chinese "fake" MCC - 100%. Only advantage to Verbatim - successful burns at 18x. -
If you want to salvage your TDK discs (sometimes they are crap, sometimes they are good quality - depends on who really made them for TDK), try burning at a lower speed, either 4x or 8x. Also the suggestion to upgrade your firmware can often fix this type of problem, so it's worth trying. Definitely in the future use good quality media - either Verbatim or TY.
-
The reason upgrading your firmware solves these problems is that a drive needs to have a specific write strategy to be consistantly capable of burning any brand of media.
The fact that your drive thinks this 16x CMC media is 8x indicates it lacks the proper write strategy. You should not expect good results from any media which your drive lacks a proper write strategy for. -
If updating firmware doesn't help make sure DMA is enabled,if that doesn't help then try a new IDE cable. If none of that helps then I think it's time for a new writer, lasers wear out after awhile.
