Firstly you have to understand what a SVCD is defined as. If you check around - including the "What Is" Guide on this website, you'll find out that a SVCD stream is mpeg2 in a framesize of 480x576 (PAL @ 25fps) or 480x480 (NTSC @ 29.97fps) - however the determination of file size is dependent on which birate you encode or capture at. If you use the max. bitrate of 2.600kb/s you will get about 35mins on a 74min(650MB) 43min with a 80min (700MB) CD. If you lower your bitrate the file size will be smaller.

If a SVCD had in the end a file size of many GB you would still be able to play it (for example from your hard drive).

The answer is "NO" as the media can only hold up till now 845MB (+90min CD-R's). However there have been reports that people have used a DVD-R(W) recorder and DVD-R media (4.6GB) to record SVCD's on to. If this works (that would mean over 4hours of SVCD on 1 disk) I cannot say (yet).

  6. http://www.inc-tech.com/

I have ordered from here 90 min. CDR's, there still fairly new, I have had prob with my HP 8X32X4 9200I Burner my friends plextor 16X40X12 works great with nero over burn. I haven't yet got nero to work with my burner to burn 90 min. I can put nearly 50 minutes of SVCD per disk. They play great in my Sampo DVD Player Stand Alone. I am open for suggestions if anyone has tried anything.

    GOOD LUCK

Not that much more expensive than 80min CD-R's - however I have only seen them in 25er packs. You should also see that your CD-R writer and DVD Player can take these 90+ CD-R's.
