I never saw the actual product, only the demo display at Best Buy.
And I still have yet to get either HDDVD or BluRay. Maybe I should just shove the whole thing out of my house and go back to my old reliable reel to reel VTR and some 8-track tapes for music.
I may pick up the VMD player if it's cheap, plays standard DVD movies (since both used red laser), and there's a few decent high quality VMD movies out. Until then, I'm sticking with my old DVD player. -

5. In many ways, WMV-HD is already obsolete. There are only a few titles available in WMV-HD, and none of the major studios support it. It's also extremely CPU intensive, even on higher end computers. H.264 and x264 are far superior, requiring much less CPU power, allow smaller sized files, and play at a higher quality than a similarly sized WMV-HD file.
My prediction is that if this player will play HD-WMV and HD-DivX/XviD files that it will sell like hotcakes, just like the Philips DivX players did when they came out. 2/3 of the population own PCs and they need a player that will play all their files that they download or create on their PCs.
I have zero need for a Blueray or HD-DVD player, as long as the format is so expensive and if I do pay alot for a player, it better play all my video formats, not just the ones they are trying to push on me. I don't want to have to buy a new burner and special discs just burn discs to watch on my TV. I can already watch the files I have on my computer for free. -
The one important question has yet to be asked. Does it support DRM? And the answer is yes. Optikey. That sucks. You can't backup your HD VMD media.
