    Hi,

    I was wondering what best software for converting avi to mpeg4 was. I tried Videora, but it was painfully slow. So, I'm looking for something fast.

    Thanks

    PLEASE give us as much information as possible and it's MUCH easier to help.

    Do you want to convert to a format for you portable device? what then?

    Because just mpeg4 can be avi divx,xvid or h264 or a mp4 with divx,xvid h264, etc.

    From what format to what format? AVI and MPEG4 doesn't tell us much. Which codecs are you using?

    Is this for a portable device? If so, here are some other converters and programs: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/portable-mobile-psp-ipod But you could probably try SUPER.

    Any encoding is CPU intensive and your CPU speed is what determines how long it will take. Some codecs are faster than others. If you are using H264 or similar for a final format, it will be slow, no matter which program you use.

    And welcome to our forums.

    I want to convert it to mp4 so that I can play them on ipod and PS3. I think the following are the supported mp4 for PS3:

    * MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
    * H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile (AAC LC)

    In terms of the files I have, I'm not entirely sure, as I just downloaded them. I think some are divx and some xvid

    Would this info help you narrow it down at all?

    Thanks

    Yes, that does help. H264, as mentioned, will be slow to encode. Give SUPER a try, but you may find it's no faster. The cure then is a faster computer.

    BTW, you can get quite a bit of info about a video file by using the freeware program Gspot 2.70.
