    Hello all

Currently using Jesterware DVD ripper Pro to convert some of my DVD's to Xvid for archiving. (superb program with excellent results)

However, getting some interesting reports from different software when trying to check the files: The videos are encoded full DVD resolution with AC3 6 channel audio.

VirtualDub file information reports the audio is AC3 with only 2 channels (Stereo)
AVICodec also reports the audio is AC3 with only 2 channels
GSPot reports audio is AC3 with 3/2.1 audio (as expected)
MediaInfo reports audio is AC3 with 6 channels (as expected)

Question is why are two programs reporting the audio is only 2 channels and the other two are reporting 6 channels?

    Any suggestions.

    Many thanks. eon

I don't think VD can open 6 channel audio, probably AVICodec can't see it either, so they default to stereo. I backup all my DVDs keeping the 5.1 AC3 and deleting the other audio formats. They will play as stereo if I use a player that doesn't have 5.1 capability.
