    Hello there,

Are the tools that are used by SimpleDivx multithreaded?

Also, which DVD-> AVI programs will offer multi threaded support do you guys recommend?

    Is multi threading preferred?

Thanks for the help in advance!

  2. I don't know if SimpleDivx itself is multithreaded but if it uses recent versions of Divx/Xvid/X264 the encoding should be multithreaded.

If you have a multicore CPU, multithreading is desireable because it allows the encoder to use multiple cores simultaneously. Thereby reducing the time it takes to encode.

When I check the CPU core usage when the program is encoding, I really only see once core being sort of maxed out...the other three cores seem relaxed.

Is there a way I can change SimpleDivx to be multithreaded (if this is possible)?
Or is there a program out there that IS multithreaded?

    Thanks!

  4. That definitely sounds like only a single thread is being used.

I use VirtualDubMPEG2 or VirtualDubMod with current versions of Xvid, Divx, or x264 codecs. The encoders run multithreaded on my Core 2 Duo. Of those codecs I believe only x264 will come close to using all of all four cores on a quad core system. The programs are harder to use but well worth learning.

I basically have a few DVD's that are not encrypted and I want them to be converted into AVI, which selectable subtitles (Around 650-700kbps video bitrate, with 128kb/s mp3audio, xvid). I used SimpleDivx because it is easier to use and does what i want.

But is there a program out there that will take advantage of my processor?
Or is there a way I can make SimpleDivx work with multithreaded processors?

    Thanks in advance?

  6. Hi-
But is there a program out there that will take advantage of my processor?
Anything that can accept AviSynth script files as input (VDub(Mod), for example) can be made to be multithreaded using the number of cores available, if you use the multithreaded version of AviSynth:

    http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/MT_support_page

I have no idea what SimpleDivX accepts.
