  1. Is there a program which can capture single frames of MPEG video and save them in JPEG or BMP format? Say I have two compressed videos, of the same footage but compressed by two different encoders. I need to capture the exact same frame from both of the two compressed videos to compare side by side. Is there a program which will allows me to do this? Please help as I have no ideas how this can be done.

    Search Comp PM
Simply load the clips into VirtualDub, go to EDIT, and choose COPY SOURCE or OUTPUT frames to clipboard.

Then go to a graphic editor, ie IrfanVIew, or even MS Word / Power Point or any other program and choose EDIT, PASTE, and paste the image in from the system memory.

  3. Pasting into Word or PowerPoint won't work because he wants a final product of a BMP or JPG.

Paste it into Microsoft Paint. Some newer versions of paint will let you save as a JPG, otherwise you'll have to save as a BMP. Or try PhotoShop, that program is great at saving JPGs.
