Most likely an issue with Adobe. XP by default reboots instead of giving you the BSOD.

Go to Control Panel / System / Advanced Tab / (Startup and Recovery section) Settings / (System failure section) uncheck "Automatically restart".

Then, the next time Adobe pukes, you will get the BSOD and you can use the error code to aid in troubleshooting.

Aside from that, uninstall Adobe. Ensure you are using the latest MB and video drivers. Reinstall Adobe and ensure you have all of the latest updates.

From your specs, you could greatly benefit from more RAM. 256 is minimum for XP, 512 is recommended, 1 gig is preferred.

Does Premiere load correctly - i.e., does it get past the splash screen that shows all the various plug-ins etc that are being load?

Can you open an existing project or is it only when you go to create a new one?

    Which version of Premiere Pro?

I recall having to uninstall then reinstall several times with v1.0 and maybe with v1.5 (bugs reduced).

256MB RAM won't cut it for Premiere Pro. Current versions want minimum 1GB for SD and 2GB for HD. That is minimum.
