    I have just created a PAL variable bit-rate .MPG file from the contents of my camcorder. The problem is that I want to make a DVD out of it in NTSC format so I can send it to an American friend. The last time I attempted to convert PAL to NTSC was a nightmare, so what can I do?

    You could try ConvertXToDVD. It handles PAL>NTSC fairly well and may be the easiest way. Or there are other methods: https://www.videohelp.com/convert#4;41

    I would try FAVC - it uses the DGPulldown method for PAL -> NTSC conversion, and also uses HCenc for good quality output. Slower than ConvertXtoDVD, but I think you will be happier with the results.

    I downloaded FAVC first, and have that squirreled away in my backup directory where I put all the stuff that I download for video tasks. It will not open the file that I have made in PowerDirector Express without being told to look for .mpg files, but that's fine. What really has me around the bend is that when I open the file in FAVC, it keeps telling me to install AviSynth 2.56 or greater, which I have already done. The lack of any proper procedure now has me suffering severe headaches.
