Hello, i have been burning dual layer discs for a while now without any issues using dvd copy 5 or dvd shrink without any compression and i have recently tried dvd decrypter and imgburn. The problem is in the last few weeks everyone of these programs has failed, i have been making a lot of coasters. Everything was fine until recently it was rare i would make a bad copy, but now it seems like i am failing 80%-90% of the time on dual layer discs. I have updated Nero Any Dvd and i have the newest versions of ImgBurn and Dvd Decrypter so i am at a loss as to the sudden problems. I had a new dvd burner put in when this problem started my old one was under warranty and i thought it had to be the burner that was causing this but the new one is doing the exact same thing. The last disc i tried to burn was in ImgBurn and this is the error message i got I 13:17:04 Source File Volume Identifier: GRAVEYARD_OF_HONOR

Your DL media is listed as MAG-D04. Take a look at our DVD Media page and use that for the media code input. You might see others are having problems with that brand. Verbatim DL is about the only consistent DL media out there. The biggest problem with inexpensive media is the consistency. Though it may have worked perfectly before, your media quality may have changed, even within a cake box of media, if that's how you buy it.
Easy to test this. Try a Verbatim DL and see if you still have the same problem. If you do, then it would be something in your process that's changed.
DVD Decrypter, though a little outdated, is one of the easy ways to backup to a DL DVD if the source DVD doesn't have the newer encryptions. ISO Read>ISO Write. But RipIt4Me or DVDFab HD Decrypter to ImgBurn should work for about any DVD. You could add Shrink in there if you need to cut out some 'extras'.
And welcome to our forums. -
I strongly second redwudz' advice. Basically, if you want it to work, you buy Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. Not DVD-R DL discs. Not any other brand. Only buy Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. If buy other brands, you will post here asking why your burns fail.
It happens ALL the time. Also, you should be sure you burn only with ImgBurn.
Your specific error seems to point to a bad spot on the disc, which suggests a problem with media. I've had a few DL coasters with Verbatim, but not many. Verbatim discs just work and they work reliably. -
Just to add to the great advise above, change booktype to dvd-rom for +R media, so as to make disc more compatible in various players...JM2cents...

I thought of it being the media but i have burnt over 100 other dual layer discs using Fujifilm and Memorex among other brands and this hasn't happened before. I would get the odd coaster but something seems to have changed in the last week or so as i mentioned, i will see if i can get some Verbatim discs and give them a try though since i have just about run out of ideas. Thanks for the help so far and if anyone has any other thoughts please share them with me. Thanks

The advice to use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs was excellent a few weeks ago when they were all manufactured in Singapore. However now we're seeing some of them at least (maybe all?!) manufactured in India, so it's a whole new ballgame. The good reputation of the made-in-Singapore discs does not automatically transfer to the made-in-India discs.
My preliminary experience with the India kind is not so good, because 2 out of the first 5 discs I burned were defective or coasters. That's compared with 200+ previously burned of the Singapore kind with only 1 coaster.
So unfortunately Verbatim DVD+R DL media may no longer be reliable... -
Well i did pick up some Verbatim discs and they seem to be working trouble free, thanks for the advice i am amazed the discs make that much of a diferance. I have to say i have had no trouble with Memorex dual layer discs as well, but it seems like the last bunch of Phillips i bought are all garbage. Thanks again for the help.
