Hi,
I've managed to create srt. file and corresponding avi.
i followed the tutorial in the how to's on creating selectable subs. I ended up with a single avi file.
I played this back on my vlc player but i am not able to turn the subs off.
can anyone help with this?
I am on a mac osx10.4 intel, i used mac the rip to strip, handbrake convert, d vision and d sub to create srts.
I am very new to this :P
Thanks.

What tutorial did you follow? -

the one on this page:

thanks. -
That tutorial is for creating a DVD with selectable subs. It doesn't seem to pertain to the question you're asking, but in answer to said question, VLC looks for an exact or similar named subtitle file which corresponds to the avi in the same folder. If one's there, it will typically display it automatically unless directed not to.
Plenty of options here. Remove the subtitle files from the folder...choose to turn off "Autodetect subtitle files" in VLC prefs...hit the letter S while playing the avi as this is the key command to rotate/turn off a subtitle track(s). Finally, you could also head to the video menu, drop down to "Subtitle tracks" and deselect it.What exactly is rotten in Denmark? -
