How does one get rid of everything on an sata-ntfs-vista harddrive. I am trying to get the harddrive back to the way it was just "out of the box". Fdisk won't work. Is there a program similar to fdisk that will work on sata drives?

Try the manufacturer's website. Most (Western Digital, Maxtor, Seagate, etc.) have bootable disk (CD / Floppy) images that you can download, to check for hard disk errors. They typically allow one to do low level formatting operations as well.

Thanks for your help. I found a program called "Disk Wizard" that did the trick. I completely erased a 500GB harddrive in just two hours.
