  1. I am freaking stumped on this one. I've looked at the 3 guides on this site and the 2-3 threads in the forums on this, but I just can't get the damn thing to work. I've installed the codecs that the guides said I need, so I'm assuming that's not my problem.

    Things I've tried:
    1. Virtual Dub Mod (says it's an unknown file format after parsing it)
    2. MKVExtract (Extracts the video as a H264 video file but I can't encode that to anything else, even tried using Super)
    3. Mencoder (just gives me an error with nothing specific)

I'm at my wits end here cause in the end I need to convert it to DivX. As long at it gets into an AVI or some other highly standard format I'll be fine. I need some help guys, I just don't know what to try since nothing is working right.

FFDShow has support for H.264 under VFW, so virtualdub should be able to read it and therefore convert. Otherwise I would use avisynth to open the mkv file (will also require at least the Haali splitter and perhaps FFDShow) and encode from virtualdub.

VDM can't handle AVC wideo created by x264 encoder (can handle H264/AVC created by x264 VfW).
You can remux raw H264 stream to AVI with avc2avi.

SUPER can recompress raw H.264 stream (FFmpeg or MEncoder - with DirectShow Decode of course not), but not see .h264 extension.

    What error?

Try recompress MKV in SUPER (FFmpeg, MEncoder or DirectShow Decode)?
Try recompress MKV with Avisytnh script in VirtualDub or other software?
Try recompress MKV with FFmpeg (from command line)?
Try recompress MKV with other GUI's for FFmpeg or MEncoder (example, MediaCoder)?

You can use ogmcleaver to extract the files. It has an option to convert h264 files to avi while extracting. Works great with ogm and mkv files.

    Yes. OGMcleaver can used avc2avi.

  6. Well, OGM Cleaver seems to be working just fine. Wish I had known I need the MKVToolnix for it though. I wouldn't have deleted that if I knew I needed it. Still got to convert the AAC audio file and then remux it, but that shouldn't be near as hard.

As for the error in Mencoder, it literally just said "error, exiting the program," I looked through what it displayed but didn't find anything useful.

As for Super not seeing the .h264 extension, that sure wasn't it IMO. I tried using .avi as well, but I wasn't really sure what to try since it was a weird extension.

I only tried the VDM guide cause I basically had all the stuff already. I guess I just lucked out that it was .h264 video files in there, ehh. After installing the ffdshow I still couldn't get it to read the files properly. Still gave me the same error message.

Doesn't really matter anymore since OGM Cleaver is working well.

    Thanks for the help.
