  1. Is Mediaencoder any good? I just tried it out and it works pretty well. I just want to know how it compares to meGUI. Is Mediaencoder a GUI as well? Using the same settings with both programs will yield the exact same file?

And how fast does Mediaencoder encode in comparison to, say, meGUI and Staxrip?

Yep, just a GUI, so same settings = same speed. Most audio/video apps are just using ffmpeg, x264, Xvid, etc.

Is there a tangible difference between how ffmpeg and x264 encode? For example, if I use Compression Check in Staxrip and get a certain rate, will using the same setting in WinFF (ffmpeg instead of x264) yield a different compression?

Never used ffmpeg's AVC encoder myself or you mean x264 via ffmpeg?

  6. x264 via ffmpeg or however some of these GUIs that do x264 and use FFMPEG do it.
