I had a home movie (2hrs)VHS which I made into a DVD on my VHS,DVD player. I want to take it into Mac imovie or idvd and add music, very old movie 50s no sound. The DVD is in two parts Video_RM and Video_TS. Some how I was able with ffmpegX to get it into imovie but not able to burn a DVD or save over to another HD. It took over an hour to copy the first time. I was not sure which settings to use so I winged it. Is there an easy way to do this??? What am I doing wrong.
    thanks for any help

First, get a copy of MPegStreamclip.
Second get a copy of Quicktime-MPeg2 Component.
Third, finalize the disc in your DVD Recorder
( you said Player, I assume recorder)

Fourth, Open MPegStreamclip, open the VIDEO_TS folder
on the disc, and open the first .VOB file.
When prompted, click "open all streams".

Fifth, with the file open, Fix all Time Code Breaks.
Sixth, export the open file as .DV stream from Mpegstreamclip.
Seventh, open the .dv stream file in iMovie.

edit to your heart's content, then export out to iDVD or
whatever you use to burn DVDs ( Toast?).

You only need money. Go to Apple's website to buy the MPEG2 component. It's about $20, if I remember correctly.

    @ Tomlee59:
you could also use "Yade X" to extract all or just specific scenes from your DVD. You would first have to rip the DVD via "MacTheRipper". The order of the extraction/conversion process would look like this:

    -rip dvd via mactheripper

-extract specific scenes or entire .vob files with Yade X

-convert your extracted .vob files to whatev with ffmpegx

-edit via QuickTime Pro or iMovie

    -Burn via iDvd

Good luck with your project. Oh, Mactheripper and Yade X are freeware, and can be located via versiontracker.com or macupdate.com
