  1. I'm a newbie concerning creating VCD's, but I thought there would be no probs when using this excellent site's guide's on how to encode and burn movies but....I must be doing something wrong still...I've encoded the AVI/DIVX into Mpeg 1 with TMPGEnc 12a and burned onto VCD's with the latest version of Nero 5.5.5.6.
The first 15 min of my VCD plays great on my stand alone DVD player (Amitech 701) but after the 15 min the movies turns into pixels and the audio gets out of sync (eventhough I've used Virtualdub and created a soundfile with the sound from the movie). This happens with all the VCD's I've created so far and I can't help but think that I must have done something wrong along the way, since the encoded Mpeg files plays just great when I watch them on my computer.
Also when I wanna use Nero to burn the files, it always comes up with an error mistake and asks me for re-encoding it again with Nero. I've tried that and the result is as describe above.
I've tried not re-encoding it with Nero and the picture has "double" the lines in the picture, however the sound stays in sync but is impossible to watch.
Please someone, help a frustrated newbie...I really would love to be able to watch the great movies I have on my stand alone DVD player!

  2. well i'm biased but i HATE nero.....it has screwed up my system often and even when it works it is pretty unreliable. NTI cd maker does a fairly good job and otherwise you can make a cue and bin file with vcdgear and burn with cdrwin or fireburner...taht works for me

I can't say that I have any experience with the type of problems you are having, but it couldn't hurt to update to a (much) more recent version of TMPGEnc and Nero. Then, make sure you have the right template for encoding. The ones that come with the later versions of TMPGE are fine (unless you use PAL, then you may need to change some of the NTSC setting that have been incorrectly set). I am using TMPGE 2.51 and Nero 5.5.7.2 and I have no problems (also had no probs with Nero 5.5.6.4, but I seem to remember that some earlier versions needed a patch to get VCD to work properly.)

    Good luck!
