  1. Hello all

I have been having problems with WinAVI fir about a week, with posts on other forums but no replies, i have found this forum which seems to be better then the others.

I have do a search on here but no look so i have posted.

The problem being that once i convert an AVI to DVD there is no sound on playback.

Im using WinAVI 8 on Windows Vista Ulitmate

I upgraded to WinAVI a few weeks ago and have had 2-3 good converions since the upgrade but every one i try since that 3rd one don't have any sound.

I have tried the original AVI and there is sound, computer plays back sound fine and i have tried the no audio DVD files in my DVD player which still no sound.

To try and fix this i have done the following:

    - Upgrade DIVX
    - Uninstall then Reintall WinAVI
    - Install AC3Filter and adust the settings
    - In WinAVI change all decoders to AC3Filter

The only new things i have installed on to the PC between WinAVI working is Dosh Business Planner (dont require any sound) and Sage 50 (again don't require sound)

Any help from you guys would be great thank you.

Start by opening one of the VOBs created by WinAVI in the latest g-spot and see if it actually does have an audio track.

The best piece of advice I can offer is to uninstall WinAVI, and use something better. Options include ConvertXtoDVD (payware), DVD Flick or FAVC (both free). Although it has it's fans, it is notorious for being unstable, unpredictable, and for producing non-compliant output. And although there seems to be a steady stream of updates for it, every second one seems to break more than it fixes, and there is no support for the product. Don't believe me, try contacting them. They actually refer users to this site for assistance, which is funny because the first piece of advice most of use give is to uninstall it. There are two simple reasons why it gets recommended in so many other forums. The first is that it is simple to use and the people who recommend it like simple things. They have no understanding of video and care little for quality. The second reason is that WinAVI is readily available as a pirated version, so most users don't pay for it.

You have already done most of the logical troubleshooting steps (kudos to you), so the trouble really does lie with WinAVI. If you really want to stick with WinAVI then try uninstalling and reinstalling it, or wait until the next update. But the life of a WinAVI user is one of pain and suffering comparable only to that of a Pinnacle user. Ditch it. You will live longer and happier for it.

  4. Yeah been to there support thats where i would this forum....

I have been using it for ages about 2 years and this is first problem and always had perfect results in sound and visual quailty so i stuck with it for so long.

I will have a look at DVD Flick as have heard about that one before.

    Thank you

  5. DVD Flick worked, the movie now has sound thank you.

BUT it did take twice as long as WinAVI did, i thought it went around the houses a bit.

Is any of the other programs available any faster then DV Flick??

You can always go faster with lower quality. But I would also recommend ConvertX. Or DVD Flick or FAVC, if you want free.

  8. ConvertXtoDVD i have just tried and it takes just as long as DVD Flick even on medium setting.

Ill Try FAVC then deside which is for me. up to yet DVD Flick i think.

    Thanks for all your help.
