I have a mpeg4 that is uses divx as the codec. I have downloading the codec and it will play in WMP but it still won't import into an editing program. After messing with it for a couple days I've resorted to asking for help. I'm including a screenshot from Gspot for more info on the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have to convert divx or xvid files to another format before I can use it in those programs.

Have you used super before? It is a great file conversion program that will convert just about anything to a format your editors will accept.

    Welcome nagihcim1

Take a good look ... anything stick out .

Some programs might have an issue because of the file's extension being MPG and not AVI

Try renaming the file ... remove mpg extension , replace with avi , then see what happens .

I have used Super to get it to work but I didn't want to encode it using Super and then encode it again using the editing program. I changed the extension to avi and it will import just fine. Now I can kick myself the rest of the day for spending so much time on something so simple. Thanks guys.

Divx is a very poor format for editing. If you created this file, think about using a better codec up until the final encoding.

I didn't mean to encode this file using divx originally. That's why it's taken me so long to get around to converting it. I record most things in mpeg2 format and then edit and burn to dvd (or convert to mp4).

As you mentioned earlier you didnt want to be recompressing files avoid recording to MPEG2 if you are going to then edit it. I dont know what sort of file sizes you record or what type of editing you do but recording to MPEG2 is not a good editing format either as it is already compressed.

If you have the room record to AVI or DV AVI or a less lossy codec, then do all your editing and then export to MPEG2 for DVD or whatever your final format will be.
