    i have memorex dvd+r.

i've burned the 2.5g(compressed) .dmg file to a dvd as a file using nero in windows xp. i put the dvd in the powerbook g4, and it spits it right back out.

i've burned the .dmg to disc as an image, uncompressed(3.5g), and same problem. the mac just spits it right back out.

windows will read the discs, and i see the .dmg file on there. transmac also recognizes the .dmg and will let me view the contents of the .dmg in windows.

i've heard macs have problems reading dvd+r's, and i should use -r. is this true?

i know next to nothing about macs. i don't have a usb drive big enough for the file.

It would likely be an issue with the cdrom/dvdrom drive (+R or -R support) as opposed to being a "Mac" problem.

If you can get the make/model of the drive or look up the specs on the mac website to verify disc support.

  3. Macs (at least mine--macbook pro) have no problem reading dvd+r's. I think (definitely not an expert) that nero is burning it as a windows only readable disc, therefore when you put it in your mac it does not recognize the disc. Haven't burnt any discs in windows xp to be used on a mac. I have done it the other way (mac to win xp) and if you don't select it to burn mac and win compatible then when you put it in a win system it will not recognize it.

  4. Here's another idea to get it from win to mac. Upload the file from you win xp to your idisk space on the internet then download from your mac.

simplest thing...burn in Nero as a DVD-ROM (UDF) disc.
mrswla is on the right track...Nero is probably
burning it as a Windows Read Only disc, and
the mac by default will not mount that file structure.

I've burned all DVDs on the pc as DVD-Rom (UDF) and
all my macs mount them as DVD-ROM volumes,
and from there, I extract ( copy) the data back to the desktop
    flawlessly....
