I have some instructional videos on an old computer (Win XP/WMP 10) in ASF format. They are protected by MS Media Player DRM. The company that I purchased the videos from no longer exists.
I want to move these files to my new computers (XP WMP 10 or 11).
When I try to open them on the new computer I get a message that I need a license to play these files and then a blank browser (page can not be found) window opens since the company no longer exists.
I have also tried backup/restore of license files to new computer but get a message that I have exceeded my restores for that day (I get the message every day and have been trying for a few weeks).
Since I have the license on my old computer I can play the files and found SoundTaxi Ultra able to transcode them to another format. Unfortunately the purchase SoundTaxi Ultra link doesn't work.
Anyone have any good ideas?
Thanks

Try opening the files using Fairuse4wm and saving new copies without the DRM.
Google is your Friend -
Thanks, didn't help. Told me it couldnt extract any keys (tried the new 'fixed' version)

JackPollack - FairUse4WM can work ONLY if you have a valid license. It uses that license to remove the DRM, but you MUST have the valid license to use the program. Did you run FairUse4WM on the new PC or the old one? You need to run it on the old PC as it's only there that your licenses will be, if they even work. If your licenses need to make contact with this defunt company to work, then you are out of luck. FairUse4WM is the only program capable of removing the DRM and if it doesn't work, there are no alternatives.

Thanks. I did try it on the old-working machine (I can play the files on this machine), but it was unable to extract any keys.
I tried some of the suggestions in the doom9 forum (reinstalling WMP, renaming DRM folder etc) but had no success.
I think the problem may be that I need to start with a clean DRM folder, but can't re validate the license after doing that.
Anyone know why the link to purchase SoundTaxi Ultra doesn't work? Any other programs around that do similar trnascoding? -
That's because DRM is there to "enhance the consumers experience"
It usually "enhances" it so much that they can't view the media they've paid for.
But Heck - they've already got your money, why should they care?
Moral of this story? Avoid DRM like the plague it is -
