ok! i have tried to convert MKV files to DVD using FAVC, I have set up everything and when I hit generate DVD. A error message tab comes up. The tab said "mkvmerge.exe-Unable to Locate Component", and inside the message tab it said. "this application has failed to start because libiconv.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". any help would be great, thnx.

Did you try re-installing FAVC ?
    Which version of FAVC ?

I just use the zipped version, as I already have avisynth installed and setup specifically for my projects. I have never had this issue, however google found 3 references. This was one of them : https://forum.videohelp.com/topic338624.html

It sounds like you need to re-install FAVC, as something went wrong the first time. These libraries seem to all relate to mkvtoolnix, so maybe you should start by re-installing that.

Give DVD Flick a try then.

Also worth PM'ing Mr_Odwin, creator of FAVC, and letting him know of your problems. He may have a simple fix.

Stop downloading mkv files, as you obviously have a problem with them. FAVC is the only thing that seems to work nicely with them, so you need to get it running. That said, sometimes you still get sync problems. I always keep the working files so I can author separately if necessary.

    Heya gunslinger,

I appreaciate all the advice you have given us and I also have what might amount to newb question about FAVC.

If you use FAVC and have a 1280x720 .MKV file will the output be 1280x720 or will it convert to 720x480?

For everyone having issues with FAVC I had to do the below to get it working.

    Install AVISynth 2.57+
Install MKVtoolnix into the FAVC directory
    Install ffdshow
    Install Haalia Media Splitter

This solved all of the errors I was getting to include missing MKVtoolnix .dll files, avisynth recognition/codec errors.

    Hope that helped some.

Thank for all the help but I got it working with AllToAvi which is much less complicated and remains the subs.

@ironape2 - FAVC creates DVDs, so you files will be resized to DVD specification (720 x 480/576)

@Flying Doctor - great you found a solution. Pity it requires an extra re-encode to get there.
