I have just recently purchased a dvp5140, and I attempted to play a video with high resolution (1280x720 I think) but it gives me a message "video resolution not supported." I remembered reading that the dvp5140 was supposed to be able to play hi res files with proper aspect ratio as opposed to the dvp642 which I also own. The dvp642 plays the files but displays a somewhat stretched image but my dvp5140 doesn't even display it at all. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what the problem could be. Thanks in advance!

  2. The 5140 does not play hidef. Resize to 720xwhatever or less. Older Philps players like the 642 didn't officially support hidef but they would try. Sometimes they would work, sometimes not. The newer players simply refuse to anything over 720 pixels wide.

You could try re-encoding to a new MPEG-4 file using autoGK or avi.NET

Make sure you set the width to either 720 or 640 with 720 probably being preferred in this case since the file has a higher resolution than standard DVD Video to begin with.

Although you should be able to make a real nice standard DVD Video out of that file.
