Now, this isn't one of those cases where it's an old computer from the 90's that's running slow, but instead a 2-month old computer.

For some reason, this computer runs slower than usual, mostly over the last week. It takes a long time for some things to load and usually takes long pauses, and even then they don't finish loading all the way through.

It's a Lenovo computer with Windows Vista, and has a storage capacity of 226 GB's of memory, with only 69 GB's of it occupied, so it has 157 GB's worth of free space.

So, what do you suppose is slowing it down so much?

Things that will potentially slow down a system include

Anti-virus programs and Firewalls and anything else that installs services that start at boot and run constantly

Virii and spyware can cause major slow downs

    Yahoo Widgets and Google Desktop

Paging because of lack of memory, especially if you are running Vista with 1GB or ram of less and have any of the above.

So, it's like when Systemac LiveUpdate pops up on the bottom right of the screen, and asks to put updates on the computer?

Did you enable Aero effects in Vista? Disable those. Also, go to Task Manager and check what's bogging the CPU down and fills up RAM memory.

So you have Nortons ? Which version ?

I found the firewall in the latest version (360) is unusable under XP because it starts churning disk if you have several pages open at once. This was with plenty of unused RAM and very little to average CPU usage.
