  1. Hi, I bought this DVD Burner from that store and I need to buy some SATA cables because I don't have any and the burner didn't come with any, so I was wondering what cables (from that same store) I would need because I'm clueless as to what they are, in the instructions it says something about connecting a 4-pin IDE/SATA power supply cable to the DC input and a IDE/SATA ribbon cable...

(Not so) P.S Here are the cables on that site http://www.playtech.co.nz/category.php?action=show&id=212

    Any help appreaciated

    Thanks.

The SATA and power connection probably looks like this:

That would be a 5 wire power connector. If your power supply doesn't have one, you will need a 4 pin Molex to 5 pin SATA power adapter cable. (The Molex style is on every power supply for drives, the 5 conductor SATA power plug on most newer ones) The SATA cable is standard, depends on the length you need. The ones with the metal clips are preferred as they don't unplug as easy as the standard, but either will work. Probably looks like this one: http://www.playtech.co.nz/product.php?action=showdetail&id=3952

And this looks like the PS adapter, if needed: http://www.playtech.co.nz/product.php?action=showdetail&id=622

I hope that all works for you. SATA is nice in that you don't need to set jumpers or worry about cable position and the cables take up much less space. Most newer power supplies already have SATA power connectors, so that helps, also.

I suspect we will see the end to PATA/Parallel/IDE connectors on most motherboards in the future.
