Had the above player for few days, seems to work well with home made dvds - plays DIVX 5 fine and picture quality is good using HDMI cable and the upscaling to 1080i to Sony 50" 3lcd projector TV (infinitely better than playing from laptop via vga cable).
However have some problems and questions about playing via the USB port which pixmania claim to be USB2.0 but I can find nothing in the supplied manuals or packaging that confirms this.
First tried to used WD 400GB External HDD (with own power supply) pre formatted as FAT32, player spent long time trying to read the drive - status shown as loading - then USB menu shown with no files to play.
After a lot of trial and error using Swissknife to format the drive as FAT32 and Primary found that I could get the player to read the drive and play the videos. There seams to be a limit of about 200GB - I only formatted one primary partition as FAT32 and if the size is less than 200GB then the player will see the drive - when I try to make a larger primary partition the drive appears to be empty when shown on the players USB menu.

tried also to play a video backup from its own folder on the external drive but this failed - it could see the folder but not the contents (VOB, BUP, IFO files) - any sugestions?

Anybody got an idea about this apparent limit of about 200GB or how to use the full 400GB

Also tried using PNY 2GB usb stick - player sees the divx vids and will play them But video will only play for a few minutes then pause for a few secs then play the pause etc.

The build quality of the player seems ok for the price apart from the flimsy DVD tray with does not fully eject from the player - discs likely to be scratched easily. USB and card ports covered by naff rubber cover.

Havent tried the the MP3 ripping function - not interested in it.

In general seems ok player especially for playing DVDs if I can get to use the full 400GB and Backup videos then will be happy bunny.

One other minus is the time it takes to load the external drive - few minutes!!

HDD limitations are a function of the dvd player. The only fix would be via a firmware update.

The pause and play issue with the thumbdrive is likely due to the slow read speed of most memory sticks.

Thanks for your reply Krispy Kritter - I am waiting for reply from H&B about the 200GB limit.
