hi,
sorry for double-posting but since the last post in the following thread was almost a yr old, i thought of creating a new thread:
https://forum.videohelp.com/topic313875.html#1738858
the following is the prob:
i have a problem with an asf movie.
its a mtv2 video mod version of "take me out" by franz ferdinand which is just under 4mins (~30MB).
i have k-lite mega code pack 2.2.0
the video plays fine in realplayer 10.5
im not new to converting videos but this one has me stumped.
i want to actually convert it for my ipod video using videora ipod converter.
so i first tried directly converting it with videora but 2mins into the conversion, the codec ffmpeg.exe crashed.
then i tried super v2007.build23 to convert it to avi (mpeg4-mp3). it did convert it but the output is just some distored image with no sound! and is half the size.
after which i tried loading the asf file in virtual dub 1.3c which gave me a "ASF: illegal object fragment flags 63 in packet at 1891 packet size = 3e80, pp =81b, send time: 0:08" error.
i loaded the video in asftools 3.1 and tried converting it to avi, pass 1 completed fine but pass2 went quite fast and gave the message "Error: No video frame found on this stream: #4".
even though it played fine in real player, i had my doubts that the file cud be corrupt.
so i tried to use a 'basic repair' in asftools to repair the video.
as soon as the repair started, it crashed saying "ERROR: Failed to set manual stream selection (hr=0xc00d002b)." and give a windows crash report for asfcut.exe
so now i really dont know what else to do?
can anyone plz help me either repair (if corrupt) or convert this asf in a standard avi or better yet, allow me to convert it for the ipod mp4/h.264 format?
if no then can someone gimme another file/format of the mtv2 video mods version of take me out?![]()
thanx in advance.

have you tried ALLOK MOV2AVI mpeg? I dunno if this would count as warez, since it's pay ware, but this is the only prog sofar that i've seen that can do it.
MOV and MP4 suck balls, I hate themLooking for subtitles of: Höök tt0997023, Lime tt0269480, La clé sur la porte tt0077348. tt=iMDb.com Found Desideria tt0081724 subtitle! :-) -
i tried allok's mov to avi mpgeg wmv converter.
i tried converting it to avi with the lowest quality possible.
it did succeed at converting but when i play the file its just a distored image with no sound....just like the output i got from super.
if i send u the file, will u be able to convert it for me?
its only 30mb.Additional DVD Player Specs:-

I would try dropping it into Gspot 2.70 and see what the file format really is. ASF doesn't mean a lot by itself, not much more than saying 'AVI'. Gspot can also tell you if you have the proper codecs and which codecs and processes are used to render the file in your computer.
-
ok, i downloaded and installed gspot 2.70a
and loaded the asf movie 'take me out' in it.
the properties of the file r as below:
EDIT: when i clicked "1" of MS A/V in gspot, it gave me the following error:
Rendering failed. Following is the error reported by DirectShow:
0x00d0bbe: (unknown)
also, when i checked the list of codecs i have installed, i found that the MAINConcept DV A/V codecs were missing.
can they be responsible for failing to convert this asf movie?Additional DVD Player Specs:-

Nothing looks unusual to me from the Gspot screen shot, but I rarely use WMVs. You mention ffdshow and K-lite. K-lite has a bad history of damaging codecs, especially when installed over working codecs. That may not be your problem, but it is a possibility. That may also be why the Mainconcept DV codec disappeared. But that by itself should have noting to do with WMVs.
Does it play in Windows Media Player, Windows Movie Maker or VLC? If VLC works, you may be able to render it with that program. It will convert most files it can play to other formats, at least more useful ones than it is presently using. And as VLC uses it's own codecs, it doesn't depend on installed codecs. -

the same thing happens when i try to play the converted version of the .asf file, converted from super (asf->avi).
what else can i do now?Additional DVD Player Specs:-

ok, now i know for sure that the video is protected by drm.
this is why each and every converter i use to convert the asf movie crashes while converting it at random stages.
i even know that a tool called "FairUse4Wm" can remove the drm protection but i get the following error while trying to recover the keys from wm player:
Code:Extraction in progress on "Indiv02.key" 11.0.6000.6324 -- Please wait. Phase 0 : Blocks: 1340 Large 0 Small, Errors: 0,0 Candidates: 5,3,2 Failure - Unable to identify RC4 and AES internal keys. Extraction in progress on "Indiv02.key" 11.0.6000.6324 -- Please wait. Phase 0 : Blocks: 1340 Large 0 Small, Errors: 0,0 Candidates: 5,3,2 Failure - Unable to identify RC4 and AES internal keys."
so if anyone has a slightly earlier verison of "Indiv01.key" or an earlier version of wm player itself, plz pm me if u wud like to help me and i will send u the tool to recover those keys.
once i have the keys, i can remove the drm protection from the asf video and convert it to whichever format i like.
or can anyone give me another workaround to the above error while using fairuse4wm?Additional DVD Player Specs:-

Presuming the DRM crap will not be a problem to Avisynth,
you could feed VirtualDub or x264.exe with a DirectShowSource AVS file.
As a last resource, there will always be Screen Recoder or FRAPS.

i have avisynth 2.5.7, virtualdubmod 1.5.10 and virtualdub 1.3c installed.
but i dont know how to work with avisynth files.
so can u plz gimme a sample avs file containing the params, and ill replace the path and name of the asf file in that sample avs file and feed it to virtualdubmod.Additional DVD Player Specs:-

i have now also tried qtfairuse but that is a command line app and only accepts audio files (not video).
then i tried tunebite but this app doesnt recognize asf files.
i tried to manually enter the filename in the browse window of 'add fles' but tunebites fails to add it in the list coz its an usupported format.
i have spent too much time trying to decode this asf video.
can anyone plz help me with this?
EDIT: i have even tried fraps. i get disrupted audio each time i try to record the sound alongwith the video.
so i try to encode the video from fraps and the mp3 version of the audio (which i downloaded separately).
but i always get an output of a longer time length than the original video. i have tried different fps rates (since i cant determine the original fps rate of the asf file even by using gspot).
so the audio is always out of sync with the video and also coz the video is having a different time length then the mp3 file.Additional DVD Player Specs:-

thanx y'all but finally i was able to convert the asf drm protected video to avi.
it was tunebite that solved the prob.
it dubbed the original video without any sync probs and converted it then to avi.
so thanx to everyone who tried helping me.Additional DVD Player Specs:-
