need help with USENET

Can someone tell me how to use usenet??? is it a program??
please help me with details, I know this site is vcd, but I get alot of question answer in vcdhelp.com.

Usenet is not a program...to put it simple, it's service(?) where people post stuff for downloading like pics or OTHER stuff. Some people simply post. Usenet has groups. Think of it like the IRC, the IRC has different rooms hosted by various groups. Usenet has different groups based on different subjects. You need a newsreader to read the posts. Outlook does it, but it seems sort of cumbersome. I personally used Newsbinpro as my news reader.
If you're an @home user, your news server has pretty decent retention rates. @home users have a newserver of their own as part of the service package.
So first get a newreading program.

i have a nifty little program that i used when i had ATT service. it pulled JPEG images from whatever category i selected. and let me say a S__T load of JPEGS. but now i have Earthlink and there service does not have newsgroups with images. they are primarlily info newsreading. are there any other Newsgroups that are FREE that might have loads of JPEGS. i tried one that was some site that had to do with Usenet but it only let you get a few things before it locks you out............any ideas??????

i tried some of the links that dumbwaldo suggested. the program i'm useing is SBNews which i used to use to stockpile on JPEGS. now, when i type in the host name, it will connect then say successful, then disconnect. then i select which ADD to select a group and i get the ERROR saying NO NEWSRC has been downloaded. anyone know what this means or any suggestions???????
