Hi all,
i have done a lot of reading on the site, but all that has caused is confusion. I am looking to take my old video tapes and put them to cd to watch on the computer and on TV.
i played around with vcd for a while and was not getting the results on the cpmputer I was hoping for. I did go to SVCD and I do like the results better. I do need to know what would be the best settings to capture vcd and svcd. I have vcd set to 352x240 and the bit rate at 1.15 exactly and the highest quality. Is this correct, it comes out looking okay on the TV, but not on the computer screen as it is blocky. The TV is the out port of my video card, so I have not even seen if it is a real VCD or not. Are there ways I can improve this quality using the mmc 7.1 that came with my card and not using up a ton of space on the computer. Also, I use vcdeasy to burn both the vcd and the svcd, will these be compliant with stand alone units, or is there something else I have to do with them....
I also need to find out what the SVCD start is and what settings do I need for it. At this time I have it at 2.6 bit rate and the highest quality. Will this work, does it need to be a constant bit or variable. I like the results as they look pretty sharp, but I want to be able to get more on the CD, and was hoping to find a way to make vcd look better. I have read about xvcd, what do i need to burn these and what is the difference on them, any suggetions or help on this would be greatly appreciated. I have a p4, with the ati all in wonder radeon with ddr memory. Any more information needed let me know...
Thanks again...
Andrew

mmc7.1 have not any 100% compliant Svcd setting
for my part , i have set Svcd capture at 480x480 mpeg2 2.4 mb/sec
and did not touch other parameter and it work
(have to by-pass nero compliant test ) , and reult where good
still have to try to higner bitrate , but 35 min on a cd is not enough ! -

Here's what I do:
WinXP, ATI AIW 128 Pro w/32MB, Nero 5.5.6.4 w/MPEG2 plugin
I set the Digital VCR to MPEG-2, 480x480, NTSC (525), 2.33 MBit/second, audio 44.100 KHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
1) Capture to the hard drive.
2) When done rename capture extension from .mp2 to .mpg
3) Tell Nero to encode the MPG to SVCD-compliant format (using the MPEG-2 plugin, it takes about 4 to 1 timespan)
4) Burn with Nero in SVCD-compliant format.
5) Watch SVCD on DVD player...it looks quite good.
I haven't tried burning the SVCD without Nero encoding the MPG, but plan soon to try. -
Thanks for the information. I have it set to 2.6 m/sec and the results are real good to me. I don't have a dvd player to test them on other then what is in my computer. I have also been using 352x480 for a sharper picture, at least that is what I read. Is Nero that good, as I have been using VCDEASY to burn my SVCD's and they look good off the comuter but I have not dvd to test as stand alone. I use 7.1. that is why I created my own SVCD using the settings under the SVCD information on the site, that is why I don't know if they are fully compliant or not, and have set it at 2.6 because the site said that is the average rate, please correct me if I am wrong on this. Also, will 7.5 work on a ati all in wonder radeon, with out any problems and where can I get it?
Thanks again to all for the help on this...
