So my monitor broke last week, and i was already in the need of buying a HDTV for my PS3. I bought the Ovelia 27" from Circuit city for like I think i paid 350+tax. Beautiful HDTV with my PS3 I must add, but anyways, I selected this tv because it said "PC Compatible" on it.

So I set it up blah blah, but the tv for some reason is in 640x480 and i see like two computer screens blurred over eachother, And I can't change the resolution on my computer. I have like a 5 year old Nvidia Geforce card in the Desktop, and this HDTV does not support DVI, which if I can get the Desktop to actually show up properly on the tv i could care less about what resolution it's in. So I want to know how to get my desktop to work properly with this tv, I do not care one bit what resolution my PC ends up in, as long as the picture displays properly and not totaly messed up. Any help would be Extremely greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  2. Connection type used?

What happens on resolution change attempt?

Check the TV manual for refresh rate and set on PC?

Check the TV manual for maximum resolution as a PC monitor? If 640x480, then refresh rate is the problem. Also, if that is the max resolution, unit will be only marginally functional as a monitor. Might actually be preferable to use TV-out on video card if available.

ID your GeForce card. It probably needs replacing but probably will work if the card has a DVI-I output.

DVI-I has pins for both DVI-D and VGA. You need an adapter like this to bring the analog pins to a DB15 VGA style connector. Then just use a VGA cable to the HDTV. The HDTV manual will spell out the accepted resolutions. Typical are 1024x768, 1280x768 or 1366x768 at 60Hz. You may need to update your display card driver or get a new card to get the wide screen resolutions.
